1. Trump declares a Russia-Ukraine energy ceasefire; Bitcoin briefly hits $83,900
President Trump announced on Sunday that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to an immediate ceasefire on attacks against energy infrastructure. Ukrainian President Zelensky voiced support but said Kyiv was still awaiting details from Washington, and Russian follow-through remains the open question. Markets barely reacted at first, then Bitcoin gained more than 1% to about $83,900 after Zelensky's response. This is the second similar announcement from Trump, so whether it holds — and whether it eases oil and inflation pressure — is unproven. With US markets closed Monday for Columbus Day, thin liquidity could exaggerate moves.
2. Thailand's Bitcoin and Ether ETF framework takes effect October 16
Thailand's finalized crypto ETF framework takes effect on October 16, initially allowing only Bitcoin and Ether products to list on the Stock Exchange of Thailand. Each fund must be passive, keep average exposure to a single asset at no less than 80% of net asset value, and hold assets with Thailand-licensed custodians. Brokers may not lend clients money to buy the products or steer retail investors into foreign crypto ETFs. October 16 is the framework's effective date, not a guaranteed launch date for any individual fund — each product still needs its own approval. For Asian investors, it is another regulated on-exchange route to crypto exposure.
3. Week ahead: US September CPI on Wednesday, with ETF flows and unlocks in focus
The October 12–18 week opens with Bitcoin near $83,000 and Ether near $2,500, and the headline event is Wednesday's (October 14) US September CPI print, with headline inflation expected near 3.7% — a number that will shape expectations ahead of the October 27–28 FOMC meeting. On flows, US spot Bitcoin ETFs took in $21.1 million on October 9, but the five-session total is still about $679 million in net outflows; spot Ether ETFs lost another $56.1 million on October 9, extending their outflow streak to nine straight sessions. Aptos and Arbitrum unlocks plus a Friday options expiry add to the week's volatility risk.
4. Aptos ends its four-year vesting today; monthly releases drop by about 60%
The four-year vesting schedule for Aptos early backers and core contributors formally ends on October 12, cutting planned monthly releases from about 11.31 million APT to about 4.54 million — a drop of roughly 60%. Future releases flow only to the community and foundation pools through 2032. The foundation has also committed to permanently staking 210 million APT and is discussing a 2.1 billion hard cap as part of a wider tokenomics overhaul. Slower releases ease sell pressure, but the network's own supply dashboard still shows monthly issuance running ahead of burns, so whether supply truly tightens remains to be seen.
5. Starknet's STRK jumps about 60% in a day — with three risks attached
Starknet's STRK token surged about 59% on October 11 to near $0.119, leading major coins on the day. The catalyst was StarkWare floating a move away from being an Ethereum layer-2 toward an independent layer-1 network that could pursue quantum-resistant security faster. The caveats matter: the transition is still only under consideration with no final decision; on-chain trackers flagged a large share of the volume as suspected wash trading; and about 127 million STRK unlock on October 15, so profit-taking and unlock supply could collide in the same week. Chasing the move carries outsized risk.
